What does Reuse mean?
Recycling can help save materials and energy, but cutting down on the waste in the first place is even better. The waste hierarchy shows that the next stage in dealing with your waste is to Reuse. Reusing waste means using an item again, without making it into a new product first. You can reuse an item for the same purpose, or for a different purpose.
How can we reuse waste?
There are lots of ways that you can reuse your waste at in the home. Here are just a few examples:
Food Storage
Reuse food containers for storing food and packed lunches and reuse bottles for storing soups, sauces and drinks. Margarine tubs and plastic containers from Chinese takeaways are great for home freezing.
Use Refillable Products
Refills can reduce the amount of packaging used by up to 75% and can also save you money too. Many household washing detergents and cleaning products are available in refillable packaging.
