Recycle

What does Recycle mean?
The Waste Hierarchy shows that next stage to deal with your waste is to Recycle. Recycling waste means using waste to make new products.

How can we recycle waste?
Businesses have many reasons to consider recycling their waste. New legislation is often the most compelling incentive. Some companies also come under pressure to comply with standards implemented by customers further down their supply chain.

However, maximising the efficient use of materials produced by your business processes can also generate a cost saving which is often underestimated, whilst enabling waste to be diverted from landfill.

Businesses are being encouraged to think about recycling - the benefits of which are both environmental and financial:

  • it can save energy, reduce air and water pollution and greenhouse gases, and help conserve natural resources
  • making goods from recycled materials uses fewer resources and less energy than making them from scratch
  • it can save your business money as it reduces costs associated with waste collection, transport and disposal
  • most business waste is currently disposed of in landfill sites, which can be expensive because of associated taxes.

You have three options when recycling your business waste:

  • trade it with others - see our guide on trading your unwanted materials
  • deposit it at a recycling depot
  • have it collected
