Resources

In this section we have included a range of resources and activities which both students and teachers can use to help you rethink waste in your school.

These suggestions are just some of the ways you can reduce waste at school. Once your school has decided on ways in which to reduce waste, pupils and staff can be encouraged to get involved through setting a waste reduction challenge. The aim of the challenge is to set a target for lowering the amount of waste produced in school.

Waste education links into a wide range of curriculum subjects and areas: in particular Maths (carrying out a waste audit), Science (studying the different materials for recycling), English (discussion of waste issues), Art (designing waste posters and craft with scrap), as well as other initiatives.

Waste Minimisation also features as a theme within Eco-Schools which can provide many more useful ideas and resources to help you with the Waste Minimisation topic. Eco Schools encourage schools to undertake an environmental review, which will help to identify things that could be improved in your school.

We would love to hear more about your ideas of how to reduce the amount of waste created by schools, and how to encourage staff and pupils to get involved. Please send us your suggestions and we will feature the best ones in our Case Studies section.
